Line Dance Steps

What do I need to do to prepare for Dance Team Tryouts?

My school is having it's first year with a real dance line along with having a dance team thats more hip-hop for during basketball season and I want to tryout. I have about a month to get ready and have been stretching and been working on my kicks but what all do I need to do to get ready for tryouts? As far as experience i took 1 year of dance and then 6 years of tumbling classes. What can I do to prepare for tryouts and what should I expect?

  1. You will be pressured, there's no doubt about that. They will most likelyy teach you a dance or two, and expect you to perform it in front of them with 3-5 other people. It's always a good idea to download the song the dance is to on your ipod/mp3 player. One thing that can help you very much in knowing the dance is paying attention to the counts! This will have a crucial role in your brain picking up the dance. Whenever you are listening to the song, go through the counts and music in your head. Practice the dance as much as possible with counts and music. Don't forget to SMILE! Smiling is one of the best kind of "showmanship points" you can get with the judges! Also, unless instructed not to, put your hair in a cute ponytail or bun! Make a little poof in the front or braid a piece of your hair! This will make judges focus on your smile and shownmanship and it also looks professional. Wear bright colors! Weak pinks and blues, bot browns and blacks and/or netural colors. I really wish you luck!
