Line Dance Steps

I'm just wondering whether my 3 years old is having speech delay or Autistic?

She line-up toys and some time imitate us like nodding heads. But no other sign of Autistic like no eye contact, walks on tip-toes or doesn’t play with other children, etc. On her speech, she starts talking after starting Childcare 6 months ago. Before that, only baby talk but no “papa” or “mama”.Now she can recite A-Z,1-30 and many other words but she still can’t say 2-words sentence, except “don’t want”.She loves to sing/dance and pick up songs very fast.Teacher feedback is that she doesn’t recognize all the alphabet, can’t chat with her classmates and can't tell when she needs to go toilet. But at home, she can recite alphabet.Although she can’t chat with us,but she can understand instructions and follow. When she wants to go to the toilet she'll say Shi-Shi.I’ve brought her to see a Psychologist. The analysis is she shows sign of autism. But the Dr at KK examine her (before we can see the speech therapist) and Dr doesn’t think my girl has autism but speech delay.I'm so confuse now.Any advice?

  1. Wait and watch. As her parents you are in contact with her most so can guage her progress. Also try educational toys like flash cards .
  2. Take her to a Pediatric Neurologist. This doctor should be able to answer more questions than a psychologist can. He or she can also give you a medical view of the problem I have a 5 year old grand daughter with the same problems and she goes to our states childrens hospital often to see her Pediatric Neurologist. That is the place to start.
  3. well it seeems completely normal to me... every child is special and with their unique and different qualities... some learn things faster and some slower and steady...there is nothing wrong... as per your information, that she does not recognizes the alphabets.... the only thing wat comes to my mind is Epilepsy ... but yr kid is so young for this..i mean the age for Epilepsy starts from 4 yrs .... (for children: they tend to forget alphabets and letters, and they create a different picture in their mind. they wont tell you that they dont know or understand, they rather stay quite in opposition..) they would know things orally, but when the time to write it down... they forget in their minds... you can test your child orally and by writing... and try to teach her in a different manner, like practical teaching.. like,,how many stairs we have in our house... ok minus 10 stairs and how much are we left with.,,, or add 10 and how much are we left with... excersizes like these will help you child's brain... anyways.. all i would suggest you to just stay normal..and act normally ofcorse... as i said,,every kid is special ...
  4. wow this sounds like my nephew case and he is not autistic his hearing was fine his intellect was superb he just didnt talk well now he is turning 6 and has been starting out almost like a 1 year would talking since about 4 so its been real slow but he sounds it out and says it now also just a tidbit of info his mother had been very traumatized by a death of her brother so its been said its possible it effected his speech development of the brain well in the womb like i say he is highly intelligent he just wasnt able to get words out at first i honestly believe your child can grow out of it just be patient and sign language may be temp. necessary also best of luck getting her into whatever programs you can but heads up "autism " is real vague and ill defined almost as if they dont want yah to get help if she is autistic jenny mccarthy just wrote and excellent book on her dealing with her sons autism and what vastly improved his condition best wishes hope i was atleast a lil helpful
  5. I have twin daughters one speaks in full sentences the other only says single words they will be three in may,my younger sister didnt talk till she was four because I was doing all the talking for her. Does she have older brothers and sisters? this might be the case. I am a lil worried bout my daughter but because of my sister not so much. I know that she understsnds everything I tell her. But the are just different girls and develop at different rates.Ella says weeaa when she wants a drink of water.dodo when she sees a dog, muma, papa, sacha, nana, rura for her sister ruby. And Ruby will say I want a water peese mum,and thats a big dog mum thats a big black dog. I hope this is some kind of help to you
  6. It is really hard to say at 3 what could be wrong. You need to be the biggest advocate for your daughter. You could be a paranoid 1st time mother, but usually mothers are very good at being in tune to their kids. The fact that your daughter can pick up songs shows that she is able to learn speech well when she enjoys it. My daughter was a very slow talker and is now a perfectly normal 7 year old. Another kid I know talked about the same as my daughter at 3, but didn't progress from there (she had a speech delay). In another similar case the child may have autism. He would make eye contact and craves lots of touch (only on his terms though). My point is at 3 there could be many things wrong with your daughter, or nothing wrong with her. Make sure she gets many checkups, she has lots of time with kids her own age, speak and read to her often, and demand a doctor pay attention to your concerns. Early intervention is key to success with any issues she could have one day. Autism is such a tricky thing to diagnose in an older child, and almost impossible in a very young child. The autistic spectrum is so broad that even a diagnosis of autism could mean many many different things.
